“This is so easy! Why aren’t you getting this? What are you stupid?”....
This has been the sentence that has been etched into my heart since I was six years old. I was a struggling reader. Smart, but very confused with all the contradictory information I was being given about sounds, spelling, and how to read words. As you can imagine I was deeply hurt and very ashamed when this was said to me.
Fast forward 25 years, I am now a very passionate certified Montessori teacher. After receiving my bachelors degree in psychology and starting graduate school for counseling, I decided to go through two years of educational training to become a certified Montessori teacher. My training was wonderful, with instructors that are not only master Montessori teachers but reading experts as well. I am blessed to have been given the gift of teaching children how to read in a way that preserves their dignity and follows their natural developmental stages so that learning to read feels easy and they come out successful.
I have been working with children for the last 10 years and I have had the opportunity to observe Montessori classrooms all over the United States and Australia. I have had the pleasure of working in schools in Chicago, the suburbs of Minneapolis, and the suburbs of Dallas. I have now made my home in Texas with my wonderful husband, my four month old son, and our Bullmastiff.
